A lot of my life plan is focused on making sure that if I do have children, I won't ever have to send them to school

It should certainly be better. I have no horse in this race and I agree with the creativity being suppressed. With care I guess you could replace the social learning aspect
-
It seems very unnatural for children to spend most of their days surrounded only by kids their exact age in a controlled environment.

My second grade experience was so bad, it literally changed my personality. I went from more energetic and outgoing to being basically disengaged from the real world and more internally focused, to an unhealthy extent I believe.

It was taught by an elderly teacher who I believe ended up retiring soon after. Imagine being seven years old, when you are bursting with energy and your brain is a sponge, and you are have to sit down and listen to someone on the verge of retirement babble on and on.

Can you explain in more detail what you mean by that? I've seen the claim several times, but it always remained vague

A teacher I had in high school showed me this. I think you'll find it interesting. I agree with pretty much everything here.https://youtu.be/Z1yl0MFYzXc

Lots of good ideas there. I think that the group setting of school is actually extremely important and can't be easily replaced, but the rigidity doesn't make much sense. I have ADHD. But I specifically believe that because my education did not fit my needs even remotely.

I’d argue with hindsight that creative kids need structure and discipline more than anything so that they can put talents to work. I had the same thought re my wildly creative quirky son. We homeschooled 6th grade on. It was a mistake.

no two kids are the same i was a wildly creative quirky kid and school was *absolutely* the wrong decision for me
wasted years of my life, burned me out--i might've been successful if i'd been permitted to pursue the career i ended up in anyway from the get-go - Show replies

I got nothing but support for anything creative I did. Teachers were always impressed when you did something new that wasn't the bare minimum. That usually comes into play during presentations or projects (and of course art class).
-
If anything it was the other kids that would think you're weird for doing creative stuff.
