If I let someone know I'm insecure, they'll take it as a (correct) indication that I'm inadequate in some way, and I don't want them to know this because I'm insecure

Insecurity doesn't make you inadequate. What one does with their Insecurities is what decides if they are inadequate. Most people are inadequate because instead of dealing with them they punish others with them abuse is a plague.
