100% or 0% gun ownership is better than 50% gun ownership. Fully deregulated or fully public health care/insurance is better than partially regulated. Full monog and full poly people report higher satisfaction than partially poly people. Is there a term for this phenomenon?

I don't understand this idea because most of the profit generated from pharma is not spent on this approval process. Some of the approval process is broken, but much of it seems necessary. We already see many drugs of limited effect even with the approval process.

Could you explain the problem with the costs that are incurred as well? They are not the biggest part of where the money goes, and the costs are mainly from running trials & covering liabilities. So, it seems like this is an argument against how trials are run.

I would argue partially regulated is the most desireable amount of regulation in most cases

It seems like for healthcare, single payer systems are far less costly and have better health outcomes. It's hard to get around the waste created by having a health system run by people trying to maximize profit.

For instance, lasik eye surgery (I have heard) is mainly unregulated, and for this reason it is the only area of medicine where costs have dropped in line with underlying tech advances. It can be argued that we have managed to get the worst of both the public and private worlds

I think you need some regulations for safety though.. Juse like the FDA plays a role in ensure food is safe. The whole situation with health insurance is weird. If consumers had to pay out of pocket for 'maintenance' health products i think we would see more competitive pricing

For example car insurance doesn't pay for oil changes.

"Regulation" is not a one dimensional variable.
