100% or 0% gun ownership is better than 50% gun ownership. Fully deregulated or fully public health care/insurance is better than partially regulated. Full monog and full poly people report higher satisfaction than partially poly people. Is there a term for this phenomenon?

Didn’t Scott Alexander write something about this kind of thing a couple of days ago. Not exactly but ‘attractor’ states. I’m wittering I know.

Yeah I read this, it's not really attractor states but that's a good concept anyway

It probably wasn't the best term; what I meant was there's a spectrum of how open your relationship can be; ppl with very closed or very open relationships have a good time, while ppl with partially open relationships have a worse time

I'm unfamiliar with this. Could you explain how fully deregulated health care/insurance is better than partially regulated?

the idea is that regulations often contribute heavily to medical costs and snuff out competition; for example it costs *insane* amounts to get a medicine approved.
