I deeply distrust demands for the dismantling of long-standing systems and institutions that are not accompanied by detailed, deeply-researched and considered alternatives. Anyone can destroy an imperfect system. The question is, can *you* build a better one?
I think the point is this likely won't result in 'extinction,' even if it's happened faster, because humans have survived worse before.

The point is that we are heading down a path that COULD lead there and is guaranteed to immiserate billions. That's a self-inflicted wound created by unsustainable human systems that we can choose to change. It's our responsibility to do so.

Sea level has never been static, it has been rising since before industrial revolution, sandy beach area is growing, deaths from severe weather are down across the board.
