As a kid, well before I had any sexual feelings, I had ... 'pre-sexual' feelings? Things made me feel funny, and I was oddly fascinated with stuff I realize in hindsight was actually sexual. But as a kid, it wasn't sexual exactly. What was it? Is there a word for pre-sexual?

We sang a song in my 50s coop preschool with a lyric I recall as "put salt & pepper on the monkey's tail, make it nice & sweet, very good to eat" which was perplexingly arousing. I've long wished I knew the whole song so I might understand what made it titillating to a 4 yr old

'Latent', in relation to sexuality, has the connotation of repression. In psychoanalysis, a word that might work is 'pre-libidinal'. But 'pre-sexual' works fine, based on your description. 'Arousal' has a non-sexual connotation, too. So, maybe 'it was (pre-sexually) arousing'?
