can we taboo the word 'greedy'? Nearly every human being would like to have more material security than they currently have.

greediness is about wanting money in a way that has nothing to do with material security

1) I dislike the word also, except in limited circumstanes.
2) I think a key issue is an economic system that optimize to help those with the least material security grow their incomes.
3) I'm fine with billionaires making even more billions, so long as #2 is what we optimize

I mean sure, I would *like* to, but greed is not just about what you would like. Greed is about what you would do in pursuit of that. Greed is when you’re willing to pollute or sabotage the commons to enrich yourself because fuck everyone else

I like this def because it just focuses on the underlying issue: excessive self interest to the detriment of sustainable games, even ones own

Ayn Rand tried. It worked for those who follow her philosophy. It doesn’t for those who curse her name... mostly those who want to take other people’s things and distribute them, not understanding that it’s theft and the same “greed” they speak of.

But that’s not what greedy means. Greedy means (something along the lines of) tempted and possibly willing to take more than your share. Aristotle discusses this.
