Desensitization to sex—one of the most valuable expressions of affection and bonding there is—could be bad. People are so desensitized that “I may as well just charge” is a common feeling among young people.https://twitter.com/parlance_common/status/1352908410405048320 …

Interesting— I actually buy that line of thinking

Depends. Some long time monogamous partners have very little sex. These people (especially males, I suggest) are unlikely to think they have been desensitised

this is an interesting challenge around these discussions Aella is poly and is concerned with the (realistic!) negative outcomes of monogamy whereas I’m monogamous and optimistic about it

I think Aella is a good grounding force, i don’t purport to know everything or be 100% she keeps the convo healthy

What of the phenomenon of people who gradually move to more and more extreme kinks when their old ones no longer do it for them? Those people do exist. Nothing is good for everyone, there should be consideration given to desensitization of anything as important as sex imo
-
People get desensitized to anything they're exposed to for long enough. How do people handle this in general? Often rotation works - rotating drugs you take for example. I personally find my kinks tend to rotate through naturally.

As with everything, YMMV. What's good for the goose is not good for the gander. Sex is one of the few activities with truly inelastic demand.

Could you explain the reasoning/data which led to this hypothesis?
