Ok clearly you want a response from me so: “fuck whoever whenever however” doesn’t work any better than the Victorian mores that created a generation of hypersexuality-as-rebellionhttps://twitter.com/CathyReisenwitz/status/1352902421345755136 …

Both men and women feel like they’re discarded like trash, women are desperately grasping at straws trying to engineer relationships from sex, people have had so much random sex they struggle to create and maintain meaningful romantic intimacy

I suspect this might come from like... A poor understanding of what "fuck whoever, whenever" actually looks like. The ability to do so doesn't mean people actually do so, and the people who don't want it are less likely to do it. But some people actually do want it.

I've probably had sex with... More people than anybody responding to you (200 people? Ish?), and the idea that this has damaged my ability for romantic intimacy feels extremely untrue. It has changed some things sure, but it's way more nuanced than that.

Basically I'm saying your description of what happens after a bunch of rando sex reminds me of my parents telling you what'll happen if you try drugs. It's technically true in some situations but based more out of vague fear and misses a ton of upside

This is an interesting comment. Why do you think this narrative is so prevalent. In fact I’d say I have fuzzy intuition that it’s true. But I’m interested in the other side. What are the upsides and downsides according to you?

often conservative narratives are outdated, as in they were really useful during a period of time, but the circumstances changed and the conservative intuitions did not. It's not that the intuitions are wrong, it's that they're wrong for the environment they're in

I’m pretty sure we are served by being able to fuck whoever we want when we want how we want with no social or legal repercussions. In fact I’m pretty sure social and legal repercussions for sex are definitely measurably more harmful than the sex itself.
