This is an interesting comment. Why do you think this narrative is so prevalent. In fact I’d say I have fuzzy intuition that it’s true. But I’m interested in the other side. What are the upsides and downsides according to you?

often conservative narratives are outdated, as in they were really useful during a period of time, but the circumstances changed and the conservative intuitions did not. It's not that the intuitions are wrong, it's that they're wrong for the environment they're in

I think this metaphor is pretty good in the sense that it really depends on the kid. I feel lasting consequences that I consider negative from both experimentation with drugs and promiscuity but I have many friends who did the same things and feel fine

I’d be willing to concede that I may be towards the more sensitive end of some spectrum and more adventurous folks don’t need to accommodate me but in youth I encountered a hedonist monoculture where I couldn’t find space to slowdown. Could be weakness or lack of discipline tho

Actually I was going to bring that up. Didn't you say you remain remarkablely emotionally stable even while doing large amounts of LSD. You may simply (perhaps much) less prone to emotional instability from an trigger than the average.

I’m pretty sure we are served by being able to fuck whoever we want when we want how we want with no social or legal repercussions. In fact I’m pretty sure social and legal repercussions for sex are definitely measurably more harmful than the sex itself.
