POC are disproportionately impacted by poverty, which makes it harder for them in many areas of life. But shouldn't our reaction to this be helping the poor, most of which will be POC, instead of helping POC, of which a minority will be poor?

They’re not mutually exclusive. You can argue for helping all people who are at the bottom, but imagine the unweighted telling those w weights “sorry we can’t spend time removing those weights we have to help everyone at bottom” even as the weights drag them below their peers.

But knowing how they got there can be very helpful or necessary in getting them back up. If you attach floaties to everyone on the floor without cutting loose the weight, you'll still struggle to get the weighted ones back up.
