Is this a fair analogy? While I accept that the Bible is really important to many people, are the stories it presents as grounded in fact as e.g. people's experiences of systemic racism?

No actually. I'm down with ppl saying they're out there but I personally haven't. All the christians I've met, no matter how superior, would engage in arguments

If they felt they were culturally ascendant, they'd talk like that or worse. Less than 100 years passed between the Milan edict giving Christians freedom to worship and the initiation of persecutions against the pagans, by the Christians. Theodosius "the Great" is quite a Google.

I think that its that they're not trying to convert you, really. they just want to brand you as an outlaw and exile you.
