I suspect the thinking here was that Republicans could benefit from a backlash against the censorship.
But the more likely benefit for Republicans is that it silences Trump and other toxic figures on the right, helping candidates with moderate appeal.

I see them trying to segregate themselves to their own platform because they don't like the rules, and each time and it decreases the overall strength of the signal to the hive mind. So you have less informed people waiting for their call.

Its the easy support for censorship that worries people, and should, people who might have more wisdom dont even have slight concerns
