Sure from an outside perspective, but I'm here from an experienced inside perspective to tell you that's not what's going on and that is a harmful misconception/stereotype. Country music is not about polyamory. I don't think I've ever heard any song that supports my lifestyle.

It's quite possible that in some parts of the Red Tribe being gay is considered worse than being poly, but I don't think Westboro rednecks are reading DF's substack. And in many other places, as Aella notes, poly people get the sort of hate gays got a generation or two ago.

I mean yes. Exactly this, for poly people today. The only thing is I don't think poly ppl get murdered really, likely because it's much less obvious in public that someone is poly, whereas it's more obvious for gays

I feel safe being open about polyamory today but I remember I went to an atheist meetup back in idaho and one of the guys there was poly - I figured it out based on subtle hints in the conversation - and he told me he was too scared to come out to anybody

One thing to look at is the reaction to Content Cop dude on youtube who came out as allowing his gf to have an onlyfans. Not even a super explicit onlyfans! Not even a relationship with another dude. but he got raked over the coals, his fans turned on him

He didn't make any conservative content before this iirc, he did stupid vulgar skits and funny takedowns of other youtubers. I'd be surprised if there was any significant conservative bent to his audience. It was probably younger and male.
He seems to be closer to centrist in the way he approaches things. Nothing explicit about his political leanings from what I recall. So, yeah. He's probably just open to things and people were not having it because of their preconceived notions of manhood, relationships, etc.
