Uhhh idk? Lots of parents are equally as horrified that their child might be dating someone who's openly married as they would be finding out their kid is gay. Also gay ppl have the right to marry now, poly people do not. Also no poly representation in media, also

iirc rates of gay acceptance in the us is way higher than poly acceptance. I personally feel significantly less safe as a poly person than I do as a bisexual

I don’t like to see the hate u receive on here & will always defend you if you get dogpiled, but I also am not wholesale pro-polyamory personally. I don’t think people should be able to marry more than 1 person, few. I don’t think it’s a fitting arrangement for most ppl either.

Being gay isn't for everyone either, but we still let them get married, and I would have asked anti-gay ppl to still support gay marriage.

You can’t possibly compare safety of gay/bisexual orientation to safety of poly No one gets killed by rednecks for sleeping with multiple people The entire genre of country music is largely about sleeping around

Sorry twitter only gives me so many characters I know this but from an outside perspective that’s how it looks Or just like a “wild and crazy lifestyle” From a Conventional conservative POV

Sure from an outside perspective, but I'm here from an experienced inside perspective to tell you that's not what's going on and that is a harmful misconception/stereotype. Country music is not about polyamory. I don't think I've ever heard any song that supports my lifestyle.

Aella you’re missing my point I agree with you about it being a stigmatized class Comparing it to being gay implies a more significant level of social censure and stigma than it appears to actually receive though People aren’t viscerally squicked out by it in the same way

It's quite possible that in some parts of the Red Tribe being gay is considered worse than being poly, but I don't think Westboro rednecks are reading DF's substack. And in many other places, as Aella notes, poly people get the sort of hate gays got a generation or two ago.

Right, a lot of anti poly sentiment I see comes from forums that are also very pro gay
