My point being that I already had intense patience and resolve and my failure at chicken carving wasn't due to lack of either of those things, it was that I was being forced into a puzzle that wasn't fun, that people who were supposed to be caring for me, refused to help me.

After reading that, ok... He didn't do a good job Dadding there, but this isn't end of the world stuff. He got way too focused here, and backed himself into a corner. You gotta teach, and to teach, you have to listen.

He cares about the ability to figure things out. He wants to teach this skill to his daughter so she’ll be more independent. She doesn’t see the value, lacks some crucial innate aptitude, or simply isn’t interested. She resents his well-intentioned efforts to help teach her.
