The intimidation factor can influence the seeming collective volition. How do you measure freedom of choice when everyone is afraid to express heterodoxy? If everyone is free to choose, then it’s not communism, it’s a company.

Communism is a rational system. But we humans are not rational. We are ruled by our insticts, needs and emotions. You can't work against biology/nature.
