Communism sucks. It's a bad idea, don't do it unless every single person in your system is voluntarily participating

Tho if every single person in your system is voluntarily participating that's actually pretty cool good job

We could encourage voluntary participation by creating some kind of point system that rewards voluntarily creating value

Absolutely. You nailed it.
This is what I don’t get.
Love communism? Start a commune.
Live communally w/ 12 ppl who like each other. If it goes well, add more. Rinse/repeat. Report back periodically.
Don’t coerce millions at gunpoint to live by rules they didn’t agree to.

I believe communism would work, and even be the optimal system, if every member was selfless to the extent they prioritized community over individual. But unfortunately this is just not human reality, and likely never will be.

Yeah, all it takes is someone with a power hungry attitude in a position of leadership to ruin it. Theoretically, you could limit them with a constitution, strong term limits, etc, like the US constitution should do and it might have a chance at working.

"Communism would work as a political system if none of the challenges that necessitate having a political system existed" - replies, basically
