I have views on the handling of covid that I'm afraid to say on twitter. This is interesting because there's not a lot I'm afraid to say on twitter. Even more interesting is I wasn't fully aware of the fear until recently; it felt like I just "didn't feel like talking about it"

If I tried to make it one tweet, my views would look like a joke because I've always thought 1 viruses should be classified as alive &capable of evolving and 2 the development of viruses is one of the few events actually capable of global decimation and should be taken seriously.

Global decimation is a bit hyperbolic - we have genetic diversity in our species for a reason. Highly virulent pandemics are exceedingly rare - even without modern medicine, they almost never wipe out whole species if they aren't clones.

Strange, i hadn't noticed that said ingroup has any particularly strong feelings about covid. And is it naive to think the whole point of the ingroup is that everyone can speak the entirety of their mind?

Often I just don’t have the energy to defend it... especially when I know they aren’t looking to understand.

Screw the ingroup - you are better off without them. :)

This could be your impulse to conform, which is powerful in humanity, and consistent with functional tribal communities. But as the Asch experiments show, being true to yourself has great benefits - as it can liberate others to be true to themselves as well.
