Not sure. I think likely academic study of philosophy is outright bad and fails to teach people how to think. They are bad at writing, bad at communicating, bad at having original thoughts. Fantastic at quoting famous dead people though!
I remember going to philosophy club meetings before and being highly disappointed. My attitude coming in was that we could come up with new ideas and maybe even solve some problems.
I don't have any formal philosophical education, but I find studying the classics strengthens my own logic, where its not loosy-goosy and all pontification. Learning how to maintain objectivity of the real world is also helpful in being logical and rational.
