my parents told me santa was a lie other parents told their kids because other parents didn't care about telling the truth, so when i was a kid i'd go around and try to debate other kids out of believing in santa

I'm 28 and I still believe in Santa Clause. The kids at my childcare that I worked at pre-pandemic kept telling me he's fake. So I went and got my picture taken with Santa to prove to them that he's real.
Santa said I look like him when we was a few centuries younger.

We took the route with our kids that, while Santa isn't real, there was a real Saint Nicholas he was based on, and it's fun to pretend.

I tried to tell my 5yo son that Santa doesn't really exist and it was awkward and I don't think he believed me

At 7 yo I remember driving down the street on my bike and thinking of something like 10-12 pieces of evidence Santa was *probably* not real. My parents held out for another year or two but that was about it.

Mine too. Except they told me not to tell other kids. As an adult, I have a hard time playing along with all the Santa stuff, and wish Christmas was celebrated every 4-5 years - every year is just too much. There may be a correlation there.
