People normally have more children when they can see a future for themselves and their people that is bright, prosperous, and full of great possibilities. COVID-19 inspires exactly the opposite sentiment, ergo baby bust, not boom.

It’s complicated. Women who have more agency over their bodies tend to have fewer children and being able to earn money for yourself (and not have to depend entirely on a man to live) tends to give women more agency. But, that’s a separate phenomenon from what’s happening here.
