People have way bigger variance around sexual promiscuity than you think. Some people genuinely strongly prefer trad, monog, conservative sexuality; others genuinely strongly prefer nontrad, polyamorous, publicly expressed sexuality. both of these are FINE. this isn't a war!

The main negative aspect of the poly community from an outsider perspective is how common it seems to be for people in it to condescendingly claim monogamous people are only so because of some deep-seated insecurity and that being poly is somehow objectively better

Eh, I think insecurity can absolutely be a factor in monogamy but I don’t think it’s the only or even main reason some people prefer it. But also yeah to your other point I assumed this was a vocal minority of the community. There are very fine people on both sides
