Difficult. It's like it's much preferred and perhaps necessary for a long term relationship, but not a prereq for just enjoying it.

Both are good.
Trust is by far more of a necessity. With kinky people one might expect a good culture of that. Women being all coy about wants and limits is a giant hindrance to joy (the main reason i agree that casual sex is meh, no room to relax).
