Christianity was a religion that started out small, with members hunted down and killed. And then it grew, and once it gained power it did a lot of hunting and killing of its own.
Very often, persecuted underdogs end up being just as awful as the persecutors.

Christianity is also one of the original (or at least an archaic one with long term reach, as there've been many others that faded away) social justice movements. So it's an excellent baseline for just how nasty those advocating for social justice can way too easily get.
