I wonder how many women or people will have to face violence before it becomes a standard feature to hide info. Maybe it will require a high profile case?

I can see where you’re coming from. I’ve been forced to provide identifiable information about myself on some platforms under the guise of ‘accountability’ to be able to continue using them.

It's also wild how many services make users jump through KYC hoops like some kinds of Stasi corporations.

It’s amazing how many have poor security questions and 2 factor as well. ANY security question that a stranger can guess or just find out of public information, should never be present. “what’s your mothers maiden name?” Yeah, that will let ANYONE reset your password w 1 google
-
True, but if you lie on your security questions your Mother's maiden name could be Betty Berserker for one account and Jeff's Mom for another- much harder to track down in a database if you lie.

The services don't handle it because they aren't required to. They do the bare minimum to keep people using their services. Always keep yourself safe however you can.
