I'm kinda uncomfortable with the government shutting everything down due to covid. I get why, but i mean... the government was telling us not to wear masks for a while, I'm not comfortable with their judgment calls being used to forcefully remove people's livelihoods.

Except they didn't say that, they said that masks didn't help. Lying about health stuff in order to prevent a shortage is not ok.

No, SOME in the beginning (almost a year ago) didn't see the benefit. Others did. Don't group "the government" into one hive mind entity. When you ignore nuance, your bias shows. Since then the VAST majority have all concluded on the same basic precautions - including masks.

I don't remember lying, it was a legitimate suggestion not to wear masks. Transmission factors weren't understood well, but things changed. It only took the key health authorities in government positions to say it, and people understood it as being a waste of time.
