If they’re going to shutdown, they *must* compensate businesses enough for them to pay employees and rent and any other overhead costs.

This is true as well. Our government is failing us, but we still need to shut down regardless.

I am not comfortable using your feelings as a guide to determine whether or not masks are effective or govt is justified in shutting businesses down for health reasons.

Right. I completely respect that point of view, even though I’m in favor of the government being able to shut things down.

The big problem is, if the government forcibly shuts down businesses (which it needs to), it has an obligation to compensate those impacted people financially, just like if it takes your land via imminent domain, they must pay you the fair market value of it. And they're not.
