Do you reference the city of your upbringing as a place you or others have "gotten out of", e.g., "I'm the only one who got out of [city]"?

Wondering if there is an analogous term, perhaps a euphemism, for people who "got out" of their (toxic) family clique/network.

Escape if you feel it sucked

I grew up in a few places but where I did middle school was Amarillo.

Not the results I was expecting...
I visit my family, and my parents said I have a place to stay if I fall on hard times. But beyond that, they said to leave and make something of myself. My hometown is a museum of mediocrity, dedicated to those who peaked in high school.
