My brain is definitely starting to process "yt" as a racial slur, I only ever get called that when people are trying to dismiss me as bad because of my race
White people thinking that racial slurs work this way is hilarious, I mean I guess it makes sense if you also don't believe systemic oppression actually exists and racism is just defined only as overt racism, aka slurs. Yeah I guess I can understand why you would think this.
I think that using a pejorative term to dismiss or insult somebody based on their race is a racist thing to do. This has nothing to do with my belief in systemic oppression
If you understand that we live in a heavily systemically biased system and operate with that knowledge - the idea of being racially biased against white people is kind of hilarious. Like basically a moot point. Prejudice towards white people is not the same as racism against POC.
It's not moot. It's hurtful. You dismissing my pain as a moot point makes me think whatever system you're operating in is bad.
You can combat systemic oppression and *also* not use racial slurs. It's not that hard.
Racism under the most accepted academic definition requires underlying systemic bias - without it, that's just prejudice. Old ideas of racism fail to really capture the experience of POC because they miss the key component of systemic oppression.
It's discriminating against me on the basis of race. The term "racism" suits that definition for me, but we can call it whatever you want - it's bad and it's hurtful, and it's also the thing that historically white people did to black people.
I agree with you - however I do not believe it is actually even possible to use racial slurs against white people because of the extent of systemic bias. So I would say you can be prejudiced against white people - but in many cases that is actually 100% justified.
