I hate exercise. It makes me feel bad. Buuut I think after 28 goddamn years I finally found a solo exercise activity that I don't hate - Audio Trip on the Oculus Quest with some weights strapped to my wrists. It's exhausting and I also don't hate it. I kinda like it actually.

the trick is i need to distract my brain so it doesn't notice that i'm working out.

You need a workout which is meaningful and fun. Play a sport. Go for a long hike. Artificial workouts are hard because they are artificial.

I don't really like hikes the sports I've tried to play. I do very much like vigorous social dancing. I think for me artificial/natural isn't the key distinction, it's whether it fully engages my brain at a high sustained rate or not.

Well I thought hikes and sports engage the brain because they engage my brain and the brains of the people I know. Hard to exercise if it's a slog. Try mindfulness while exercising. If you can't distract, then fully pay attention and fully accept all the feelings that arise.

I can think about other things while I'm hiking! I can think about what I'm gonna do today or eat later, I have tons of extra brain space. I can't do this at all when I'm doing high intensity social dance or VR exercise game levels.
