I understand what you're saying and as a parent who had a kid who felt confused about her gender identity, I thought the same at first... but then she *kept* changing her mind and I was grateful that I never made the appointment and she is too really.

Blocking puberty sounds simple and I understand the rationale behind it, but it's not as benign and reversible as it seems. If a kid is *sure* they are trans, I grok why that kid doesn't want to go thru the "wrong" puberty. But thinking it's harmless and reversible is not true.

On a very superficial level. Approx 95% of kids that experience gender dysphoria have spontaneus resolutions over time. This comes as part of brain maturation during puberty. Block puberty and you permanently lock in the individual in a gender dysphoric state.

this article is pretty unbiased and lists concerns, much of this is inadequately researched at the current time.https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2444866417301101 …

They're not reversible. There is as yet no such actual thing as "puberty blocking" in the sense of pausing physical development, just influencing the hormones you have AS you develop. They were invented/named for their permanent effects on kids with precocious puberty.
-
most of the discourse around puberty blockers basically treats the phrase as a spell being cast by a doctor on a kid instead of paying attention to why they were developed and what the actual physical effects are on height, bones, etc.

I would expect the opposite, as sex hormones fuse growth plates?

Two big concerns are its effects on fertility and bone densityhttps://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/in-depth/pubertal-blockers/art-20459075 …

(I am not knowledgeable about this. I just remembered seeing those concerns articulated somewhere and found this link.)
