My boyfriend (synesthete) says in addition to horizontal line, they are not equally sized. Summer months are longer.

Columns connected by hairpin turns. Jan 1 is on top, we descend down the left to July 1st, then ascend back up the right. But at the top we don’t loop back, we curve to the right again and start a new year.

Cool poll. For me, its a 6x2 grid. I think this is the way the months were arranged as decoration in my first grade classroom.
