Before I take a small bit of evidence as support for my general worldview, I first check - could I also use this evidence in support of an opposing worldview, too? If so, then I usually don't take that evidence as support for my worldview.

"[Sleazy guy I don't like] seemed awfully defensive and nervous. That's evidence he was guilty" You could just as easily go "This guy was defensive and nervous, of course he would be if he were innocent!" Thus, his demeanor isn't good proof either way.

The form of this it took me a long time to learn: Naive thinking: "[Person] is nice to me. Therefore he's a good guy" Reality: "[Person] is nice to me. But if he were a bad guy, it would be in his interests to be nice to me too. So actually him being nice to me implies nothing"
