How did we get to a point where we think that the minimum amount you get paid from a company should also be enough to pay half of an average two-bedroom apartment? Why is it not "the minimum possible wage should pay for splitting a room in a lower end apartment"?

“We’ve done it this way forever” is not a very compelling argument as to why we should continue doing it that way. In the modern world, isn’t having the space to jack off, plow, etc. part of having a normal life?

To be clear: I’m not arguing in favor of higher wages. I’m merely curious how anyone over the age of 20 or so could live normally while sharing a room. I’d rather live in a shit hole with my own room than share one in a nicer place.

I live in a working-class neighborhood in the Bay Area, I’ve known many impoverished grad students, and I’ve *never* seen an adult sharing a bedroom with another adult they weren’t with romantically. Sleeping on couches, yes. Living in RVs parked in other people’s yards, also yes

And most of the world still. Assuming that under no circumstances should someone have to share a room is like saying no one should have to wear wool that isn't cashmere.

Most of human history has things that almost no one would be ok with now.
