How the hell do people stay productive? My brain occasionally and randomly just decides to stop giving me any motivation to do anything for days to sometimes weeks at a time. Do other ppl with normal lives not have this happen? What is wrong with my brain?

It's all about setting small, daily goals. And, having downtime and rest on the schedule is essential. Our brains will always burn out if there is not a light at the end of the tunnel.

i'm kinda in this state rn too. I know what I have to do to make quite a substantial amount of money, and it's work that I am personally passionate about in the abstract (it's writing ebooks that help people), but right now I really don't want to do it, i don't wanna do anything

"If you want it badly enough..." - nope. Desire to do a thing, motivation to do a thing, these have no influence on executive dysfunction. Even if it's not severe enough to merit the search for a diagnosis, burnout is a real thing that can inflict very similar symptoms.

Oh, and the effect of stress on the brain is cumulative. One massive stressor can easily be matched in mental impact by a thousand tiny stressors, especially over a large enough time frame. It's easy and habitual to neglect/ignore just how many things are weighing on you.
