So many cults have been popping up in my social circles, among really smart and emotionally mature people I know, what the hell is happening? Have cults always been going on this strong or is there something new in the water?

The thing I've learned is that it's very often not obvious from the outside that a cult is a cult

They look like quaint, unusual communities run by charismatic leaders with norms different from the regular population, often with really good ideas and inspirational teachings

yea no one actually “joins a cult”... people join what they think is a good thing
