fwiw most sex workers i know actively fight against the calls to legalize sex work, they want it decriminalized. But there's still *massive* stigma against sex workers; if you run in liberal circles you probably won't see it that much.

i think this is true in some cultures and very untrue in others; for example i felt very 'safe' in being open about sex work for a while, but recently started running into pretty huge sex-work-intolerant internet communities that told me i was a worthless whore

I think it's a good indicator, yes. For example, living in SF, nobody cared if i do sex work. If I go into a severely religious midwest, then things get a little more touchy. The internet manages to breach both of these cultures a lil easier.
