How do I interpret r values? Ppl usually say <3 is weak, 4-6 is medium, and 7+ is strong, but that this is dependent on field - but i can't find anybody saying more about how this changes per field! I'd love to see a chart of what's a medium strength across different fields

Don't talk about r values with statistically illiterate people. They don't know what it means so you're wasting effort. Be ready to answer questions about the data that may include a brief description of the 'fit' of the data but I would avoid using overly specific language here.

Show a nice graph with a line and some data points, maybe show MSE for a regression. My experience is that humans most easily interpret relationships through visualizations whether they are statistically literate or not.
