acting like i believe i am desirable by them yes. this doesnt work nearly as well for people who aren't above a certain threshhold of hotness

as in; culturally there's *intense* mockery for unattractive people who behave outside their attractiveness ranking.

Claiming unearned status is a source of mockery in almost any sphere.

right, and 'believing youre hot makes you hot' only works if you're not claiming unearned status; i.e., if you are already hot enough to get social backing for claiming it.

have you never met a relatively unattractive-by-society's standards who you nonetheless deemed to be really hot?
I think a good media example is Abigail from girls. You can't quite tell from this picture, but in her final episodes when she falls in love, she becomes very hot

I haven't seen Girls so idk, but i can't think of an example where culture deemed an unattractive girl 'hot' in a serious way (as opposed to body positivity way)

Seems likely. My definition mostly applies to offline experience of people where you can feel their vibes more. Would correspond to physiological tells like, "Gives dude a boner" / "Makes her blood rush" even if the person would not be called hot

i find this so intensely wrong
i think hot people self-delude themselves into thinking their physical attractiveness is less important than it is
and ppl treat them well and they rationalize it into being confident
but the confidence came from being hot in the first place
