right, and 'believing youre hot makes you hot' only works if you're not claiming unearned status; i.e., if you are already hot enough to get social backing for claiming it.

have you never met a relatively unattractive-by-society's standards who you nonetheless deemed to be really hot?
I think a good media example is Abigail from girls. You can't quite tell from this picture, but in her final episodes when she falls in love, she becomes very hot

I haven't seen Girls so idk, but i can't think of an example where culture deemed an unattractive girl 'hot' in a serious way (as opposed to body positivity way)

Seems likely. My definition mostly applies to offline experience of people where you can feel their vibes more. Would correspond to physiological tells like, "Gives dude a boner" / "Makes her blood rush" even if the person would not be called hot

i find this so intensely wrong
i think hot people self-delude themselves into thinking their physical attractiveness is less important than it is
and ppl treat them well and they rationalize it into being confident
but the confidence came from being hot in the first place

i also think that this 'might' be more true for men but is *still* overblown; i saw firsthand the insane difference with which women treated my hot male friends vs my unattractive ones
and for women it's even worse

No idea if this is apocryphal, but it relates: linkedin.com/pulse/charisma
Have personally experienced this effect when I'm at a party or walking the street of NYC and "turn it on"

unattractive women don't have the privilege of getting that reaction when they turn it on.
Probably 'turning it on' is a multiplier on how hot you are; if you're not hot, it's a very minor bump; if you're very hot, it's a very clear difference.

ok I can agree with something like this, it's a more complex model that one might infer with my tweet.
Maybe we disagree about where the multiplier becomes more than a minor bump. Hard to upgrade much from a physical 1, but I've seen 5s upgrade substantially

my house is now in an excited debate in our living room about this
To complicate matters, confidence produces hotness as a byproduct occasionally- this is in the form of a commitment to hygiene, styling, hair care, good fitting clothes, etc. A naked 5 who dresses super well, has nicely styled hair, etc can claim a higher total hotness value
