Hotness is mostly a consequence of believing that you’re hot. It transcends physical attractiveness, which plays a much smaller role than people think.

But a big part of your job is acting like you believe you're hot, right?
-
acting like i believe i am desirable by them yes. this doesnt work nearly as well for people who aren't above a certain threshhold of hotness

Different criteria and context for on-screen vs. in-person. Someone with so-so looks but amazing style and personality will be much more attractive in person. On-screen privileges interaction w image, so naturally someone's raw physical attractiveness will weigh more heavily.
-
Imo the screen distorts/emphasizes entertainment/personality in a very similar way to distorting/emphasizing attractiveness, and if you're less hot in person you're also likely to be less entertaining in person (e.g., see popular youtubers failing live interviews)
