there's also ah... a fallacy or something? that i often see people use and i sorta feel like it applies here; e.g., if someone is being very bossy, and you say "i want you to be less bossy", and then they say "well you're being bossy by telling me that", that feels like an error
Like in some way it's not an error, like a lot of interpersonal work comes from applying things recursively, but on a more object functional level, just saying 'apply it to yourself' doesn't aways hit the point right
