i often like being vulnerable online, but it starts to get less fun when im upfront about an unflattering thing about myself and then ppl take it and flood my mentions with mockery

Another very good advice that could apply: use teddy bear principle: they are not sending those messages to you. Which is definitely true — they are sending them to the image they have of you, not to you directly, this is not a dialogue. Offload the emotional burden.
