Is grant a serious question? Have you heard of the Q-Anon movement? Did you forget the build the wall campaign? Jailing Mexican immigrants in camps? The constant talk about BLM and Antifa rioting and looting? Constant calls for law and order? That’s their whole game.
I am drawn to experiencing that yeah. If I could do that without ruining my life I would.

Ok so there’s a reason why you don’t do it. There’s a downside. Which brings us back full circle. It sounds like this is less about understanding people than it is about just experiencing others’ experiences. If that’s what you like to do, nobody’s stopping you.

This all stems off the idea that you can't possibly understand someone's situation unless you yourself have gone through their experience. To some degree that may be true, but I think to another degree it's unnecessary.

I don't think this is exactly true - I think a super vivid imagination and selfless curiosity can be a pretty good proxy.
