I'm honestly kinda shocked at how little people seem to be interested in really understanding Trump voters. Maybe cause you can't hate that which you fully understand?

What is there to understand? These are not complicated people that make measured decisions about the world around them. These are people that are fueled by fear and/or hatred. What I don’t understand is why so many people seem to think the world is failing these people somehow.

How are they fueled by fear and hatred any more than the left is?

Is grant a serious question? Have you heard of the Q-Anon movement? Did you forget the build the wall campaign? Jailing Mexican immigrants in camps? The constant talk about BLM and Antifa rioting and looting? Constant calls for law and order? That’s their whole game.

Everything? What if I just told you that it was a cult and not a political party? Would that change your level of compassion?

I have no compassion for Trump supporters at all and I don’t understand why any sensible person would. This is coming from someone who’s entire family supports Trump, by the way.

Then having more compassion might be the most important thing to work on. I think the cult analogy is one worth considering.

Why should I feel compassion? It’s not like these people haven’t seen and heard all the terrible things going on in Trump’s administration. They have the same access to information you and I do. They like it. They want it. They’re undeserving of compassion.

Yeah, I think this is a good of a heuristic as there is in discourse.

Ok I get it. So only one side of the aisle is required to have compassion, and if that side decides to draw a line in the sand then they’re the bad guys. Got it.
