What? It's a privilege to be able to shut down your economy and not work and still survive. No shit poorer areas would rather risk death.

We live paycheck to paycheck with higher standards of living than ancient kings. Americans are living in bigger spaces, with a wider variety of food available and a longer lifespan and no fear of kids dying and vaccines, all paycheck to paycheck

Aella doesn't get that postponing measures against Covid causes MORE economic damage as people become too scared to gather in crowded places. And countries much poorer than right-wing US states have had much stricter measures, and have saved the economy as a result, eg Vietnam.

I'm not saying that it doesn't create more economic damage, I'm saying if you're a poor rural person and they want to shut down your job because of covid, you're likely to be less tolerant of this than if you've got a year of savings in the bank.

No, if you lose your job because people don't want to use your business because they don't want to risk infection, that's no different. If you want to avoid that, you'd support measures to stop this from happening, such as masks and quarantines.

Sure but if you need the economy to keep going and you live in a city with people who think similarly, then everyone will be more likely to take risks like shopping at stores and not closing them down. I'm not saying this is good, I'm saying this is how people are reasoning.
