I could feel this in myself. I want Biden to be president, but my experiences with the left this last year still gave me a little shot of joy every time Trump did well

My takeaway is that a large number of people HATE the cultural left (not the econ left) and are willing to put up with almost anything, including incompetence, chaos, corruption and bad policy, to signal their views loud and clear.

So basically, you are all babies in the US? Like, this kind of conduct - willingness to put up with almost anything, including incompetence, chaos, corruption and bad policy - just to signal cultural views is not what an adult would do. It's a conduct of some bratty teen.

This baffles me, truly it does, because for as bad as parts of the left can behave – Trump is just so much worse? In that, he's nakedly corrupt, cruel, calamitous for democracy and public welfare... some leftists being mean online doesn't change that fact.

tbf in my experience he doesn't seem obviously significantly worse to me; he seems slightly worse. "Some leftists being mean online" is *way* underplaying the severity of leftist flaws. But to be fair I mean Trump is actually awful too.

I don't think so. I think any experience someone had can be understood in terms that are kind. I have no self judgment for what I experience.
