People who can engage in polyamory without it having negative consequences on their lives are, IMO, a small minority. And since people can't tell if they are such a person, the safest course is to pursue monogamy.

tbf very few people can engage in monogamy without it having negative consequences on their lives. i don't think i know a single monogamous person who hasn't had this happen
