One reason "i don't have the energy to explain this to you, do your own research" bothers me (besides the condescension) is that it implies that if someone does research, they will inevitably come to the same conclusion. They're telling you all the research agrees with them.

but not by explaining *how* the research agrees with them, its just a sigh and "do basic education and obviously you will agree with what everybody who does basic education already agrees with"
even though this is often not true.

Well, research is often not conclusive either unless you're talking about matters of established science. People often have bias whether or not they are good evidence to support their claims. I can understand being annoyed at not having a debate, but it's also a lot of work too

It's not saying that. It's saying: I'm not responsable for your education. You'll either get there or you don't. However, I prefer silence

You're right, but clearly certain topics are too complex to be discussed over social media - which is why some people will choose against diving into debate. It's just futile.

It's worse, all the research that doesn't adhere to their conclusions is to be dismissed and it's your job to sort it out and proof them right.

They're also making you work for it.
Imagine if you had to spend an hour or so "researching" every time some dunce claimed something whacky.
If you claim something out to lunch, the onus is on you to back it up.

It just makes it seem like they don't understand what they're saying. Even if you were to go over all the material they suggest reading and came to a different conclusion from them, they'd probably just tell you to read it again, instead of having a real discussion together.
